Achima is 40 years old and lives in a remote region of West Bengal. She lives in the small town of Dhupguri in the district of Jalpaiguri. She lives with her husband. They have four children. They live in their own small kachha house (mud, straw and bamboo-made).

Achima is illiterate, but knows how to sign her name. Achima could not complete her education due to poverty, but she is willing to provide her children a higher education and desires that her children do not face any obstacles in receiving education.

Achima’s husband has been associated with agricultural activities for many years. Achima‘s husband's earnings are hardly enough to cover the educational expenses of their children after meeting the household costs for their family.

Achima’s daughter, Jahanara, is now studying in class X (grade 10) and is very much serious about her studies. In this year, she will appear for her Madhaymik Exam (state board examination). She aims to become a teacher in the future.

Achima learned about BJS (Kiva’s partner) and applied for a loan of 15,000 INR for her daughter’s uninterrupted education, so she can take her state board examination without any problem. With the loan amount, Achima will pay the private tuition fee and buy necessary articles like books, notebooks, pens, geometry box, etc. for educational purposes for her daughter.

Achima and her daughter Jahanara are very much grateful to Kiva and BJS for this loan. They give hearty thanks to the lenders.
