Young Generation Group's story

In the photo are members of the “Young Generation B” group. They are small scale businesswomen based in Waterloo, in western Sierra Leone. Together, they are requesting a loan of 4,000,000 Sierra Leonean Leones (SLL) from SMT/Kiva lenders. With this loan, they will be able to expand their respective businesses, make more profit and consequently improve their standard of living.

The featured leader of this group is Ramatu. Ramatu is thirty-six. She was born in one of the several villages that make up Sanda. However, she is currently residing in Waterloo, together with her husband and three children. Her husband is a trader and one of her children is attending primary school and the others are not of school going age. For five years now, Ramatu has been selling sugar, soft drinks, biscuits, etc. With this loan she will buy sugar, soft drinks, biscuits, etc. at wholesale to add to her business.
