A loan of $850 helped a member to buy condiments.

Benkadi Group's story

The Benkadi group is made up of married women who, on average, are 39 years old and have four children. They all live in traditional families in the village of Dioila, Kaladougou commune, Dioila prefecture, Koulikoro region (second administrative region in the Republic of Mali). The women know each other from family, neighborhood, and friendship ties.

The group works in food preparation and the selling of condiments, fruits, and vegetables. They are on their sixth group loan.

Sali, the first person standing on the left, sells condiments. She procures her goods in Dioila from wholesalers coming from Fana [and will buy] tomato paste, ground nuts, Maggi cubes, onion salt, eggplants, garlic, peppers, and pepper.

She will resell her condiments at retail to a mixed clientele in Dioila. She hopes to earn a monthly profit of 38,000 francs CFA. These earnings will be reinvested in her business.
