Benkadi Group's story

This BENKADI group is composed exclusively of married women. They have an average age of 45 with four children, and they live in traditional extended families in the village of Sadiobougou, township of Wacoro, prefecture of Dioila, Koulikoro Region (second administrative region of the Republic of Mali). They met because of being relatives, neighbors, and friends. They are involved in selling cooked food, condiments, cereals, and various other products. The women of this BENKADI group are on their second solidarity loan. The featured client, Sali, the first person from the left, seated, sells salt. She intends to buy 150 kg of salt from the wholesalers in Dioila and sell it retail to a mixed clientele. She expects to make a monthly profit of 3500 F CFA. This profit will be used to raise poultry.
