A loan of $1,600 helped to buy notebooks, pencils, paper, and school supplies.

Patricia Maribel's story

San José Communal Bank meets every two weeks in Jaramijo Canton, known for its pretty beaches that bathe the coast of the beautiful area. The majority of people there are very hardworking and work in jobs relating to the sea.

This is where Patricia lives. She's 28 years old and single, and lives in her parents' house.

Patricia set up a space in the center of town five years ago to earn a living and help her parents with the household expenses. In the beginning she installed a photocopier; later, with the help of loans, she started supplying a small paper store. She works all day every day with the help of her mother. This business allows her to get ahead and make a better future for herself.

This new loan is to buy notebooks, pencils, paper, and all types of school supplies.

Patricia has been in the communal bank for three years and she likes it because the loans have helped her a lot in her business. Her dream is to expand her business.
