A loan of $4,275 helped a member to pay for the construction of a hygienic toilet and a hand-washing device with soap.

Group 13 - An Thanh 01's story

Ms Tiep, 38, works in agricultural production with a monthly income of approximately VND 700,000. Her husband died from an electrical shock accident and she has to bring up two small children on her own. She has been a member of the Women's Union since 1999. Because of the economic hardships, her family is currently using a double-pit latrine that has degraded and has the risks of potential adverse affects to the health of her family members and her community and environment contamination. With a portion of this loan, she will be able to buy materials to build a hygienic septic tank latrine and a hand-washing device with soap. Those facilities would also help her family improve their health and living conditions and afford safety for them, particularly at night and during rainstorms. The facilities would provide convenience, cleanliness and privacy for all family members, while contributing to the environment protection of the community. In the picture, Ms Tiep is standing in the second row, third from the left.
