Shakeela's Group
In this Group: Shakeela, Bushra, Shahida, Safia, Razia, Rabia, Kiran, Sajida
Shakeela is 38 years old. She is a responsible mother living in the area of Lahore, Pakistan. This is her sixth loan with BRAC Pakistan. She has been taking loans as needed for her family. Shakeela belongs to a poor family, and it is very difficult for her to pay for all the household expenses with a low income.

Her husband is a hawker and sells many hair oils by bicycle. He sells mustard oil, avocado oil, castor oil, coconut oil, olive oil, rosemary oil, and safflower oil. He loudly calls in the streets to customers to offer all the hair oils for sale. He is famous for his hair oil that protects hair from falling out.

Shakeela's husband wants to buy a large quantity of hair oil to sell in order to grow his business and to overcome poverty. Shakeela requested a loan for her husband so he can buy more hair oil.

She is very impressed with this generous support. She thanks Kiva and field partner BRAC Pakistan.

This is a Group Loan

In a group loan, each member of the group receives an individual loan but is part of a larger group of individuals. The group is there to provide support to the members and to provide a system of peer pressure, but groups may or may not be formally bound by a group guarantee. In cases where there is a group guarantee, members of the group are responsible for paying back the loans of their fellow group members in the case of delinquency or default.

Kiva's Field Partners typically feature one borrower from a group. The loan description, sector, and other attributes for a group loan profile are determined by the featured borrower's loan. The other members of the group are not required to use their loans for the same purpose.
