Danaya Group's story

The members of the Danaya group are married women who, on average, are 29 years old and have three children. They live mostly in monogamous families in the Bougoula neighborhood, one of the outer areas of the town of Sikasso, third administrative region of Mali. The group is on their ninth loan with the micro-finance institution Soro Yiriwaso, in order to satisfy their customers' needs.

In this group of women, Fatoumata B. sells tomatoes. She is standing in the middle of the photo. With her loan she plans to buy 60 baskets of tomatoes. She sells these goods at a market and from home for cash to male and female customers.

Fatoumata B. hopes to earn an average monthly profit of 65,000 francs CFA, in which a part will be used to pay back the loan and the interest and the other part will be put in savings.
