A loan of $3,400 helped a member to buy groceries and school supplies for her business.

Tierra Fertil (Cuenca) Group's story

The loan group Tierra Fértil (Fertile Land) consists of eight women who live on the outskirts of the Valle parish in Cuenca, a place that is surrounded by much vegetation and green fields. It has a cold climate and a varied architecture. Its people are friendly and gracious; in spite of all the difficulties of daily living, they always have a smile.

One of the members of this group is Señora Blanca. She is 30 years old. She is the single mother of a 4-year-old girl, who goes to a little city school. She does not have her own house, and so she rents.

For two years Doña Blanca has tended her own store. She works every day of the week without a fixed schedule. In her shop, she has internet service, a variety store, and a stationery store.

Her new loan will be used to buy groceries and school supplies for her business. Her goal is to have her own house.
