A loan of $275 helped to purchase a mobile phone, solar-charging set, and a weighing scale.

Abdu's story

Abdu is 27 years old and married, with one child. He earns his income through the sale of crops and through livestock. He earns a monthly wage as a Community Knowledge Worker (CKW).

Community Knowledge Workers are trusted community members who provide agricultural data and advice to rural farmers in their local area, including information about the weather, market prices, crop diseases, and agricultural tools.

On his land, Abdu grows ground nuts, maize, beans, coffee, and bananas. He also has goats and chickens.

As a CKW, Abdu will use the materials in his business-in-a-box (a smartphone, a solar-charging set, and a weighing scale) to disseminate vital agricultural information to the other members of his village, helping them to improve their crop yields and regularly updating them on prevailing market prices in their community.

With the additional money he will earn as a CKW, Abdu will be able to meet his family's needs. His biggest dream in life is to be a model farmer and parent in the community.
