The Familia Unida ("United Family") Communal Bank is maD. up of people involved in various businesses: hardware stores, drink sales, sewing and vending clothing. One of the men is a contractor, and the other makes ads and jingles for the media. The president, Mrs. Maritzabel T., is also involved with the media. During the loan disbursal,* the president gave a rousing speech in which she urged her fellow group members to take the necessary caution and be responsible with their work ethic and in their behavior towards the institution (AgroCapital) in this upcoming loan cycle. The group members echoed this sentiment and supported Mrs. T., and they all committed themselves to work hard, so that they can continue to get credit with AgroCapital.

Most of the group members plan to use this loan to buy more merchandise to sell. Most of the women have many years of experience working in their respective fields; all but three have more than five years of experience.

*Note: Loans that appear on Kiva have actually already been disbursed (so that clients don't have to sit and wait for their loan to be funded on Kiva); Kiva's partner MFIs are reimbursed at the end of each month, after the loans are funded on Kiva. This is why Familia Unida has already received their loan.

Additional Information

This is a Group Loan

In a group loan, each member of the group receives an individual loan but is part of a larger group of individuals. The group is there to provide support to the members and to provide a system of peer pressure, but groups may or may not be formally bound by a group guarantee. In cases where there is a group guarantee, members of the group are responsible for paying back the loans of their fellow group members in the case of delinquency or default.

Kiva's Field Partners typically feature one borrower from a group. The loan description, sector, and other attributes for a group loan profile are determined by the featured borrower's loan. The other members of the group are not required to use their loans for the same purpose.
