A loan of $400 helped taxi repairs.

Betty Petrona's story

Betty and her husband live in the tropical Santa Cruz region of eastern Bolivia. They have one 18-year-old son, whom they support financially, and they are taking out this loan together to pay for repairs on the taxi they own. The couple earns income by renting the taxi to the driver at a fixed daily rate, and Betty's husband also works as a salesman, for which he receives a set monthly wage. They have five years of experience renting the taxi and working for the company. Since they are experienced in both areas, competition does not present a major problem.

Betty and her husband are taking out this loan to repair the taxi's motor, which will cost $400. They are refinancing a previous loan of $3,010 in order to take out their current loan. They have $1,336.86 left to repay on the previous loan, and have always made their payments on time and in full.
