Nongpok Ningthou Shg Group's story

Tombi is pictured with her hand raised and she is the featured profile member of Nongpok Ningthau. She lives with her husband and four children in Imphal East, Manipur which is in the Northeastern region of India. She has a son and three beautiful daughters. They are all in pre-secondary school.

In order to supplement the family income, Tombi opened a variety store and seasonally rears chicken to generate more income. She is able to sell only 2,500 to 3,500 INR per day from the variety store. She keeps items like potato chips, rice, boxes of matches, detergent, etc in the shop. Her husband is a truck driver.

With the meager income, having to take care of the children and household expenses, life isn't easy for them, says Tombi. She wishes to send her children to a good school and provide them with their basic daily requirements without fail. She wants to be financially independent because she believes it will give at least peace and harmony within the family. She thanks WSDS for being compassionate towards her and the group. Like Tombi, the rest of the group members are also engaged in poultry farms, shops, sand sifting, and weaving.
