Maa Chandi Thakurani Self Help Group's story

The featured borrower of this group is Bishnupriya who is sited second from left with register in picture. She lives in Eastern India in the state of Odisha with her husband and two children in a joint family with her husband’s parents, his elder brother and his elder brother’s wife. Bishnupriya's husband and his brother work at the local petrol pump to provide for the family. However, their earnings are not enough to support all the household expenses, so Bishnupriya is requesting a loan so she can buy a cow to raise and bring in extra income for the family.

She has never been in a business before, but she is excited to start and contribute to the household needs. While she only finished primary education, she says, “I want a better future for my children, I want them to be highly educated and settled in a good way.”

She says thank you to People’s Forum and Kiva for helping her get this loan and helping her family improve their livelihoods.
