A loan of $6,150 helped a member to buy chickens.

Unión Progresista (Cuenca) Group's story

The "Union Progresista" group is made up of 13 women. They live in the Santa Ana parish in Cuenca, where there is a cold climate and green fields. From its center, you can admire the city of Cuenca. The people are friendly, kind, and very charismatic. They still follow the culture and traditions that their parents passed on to them. Their main economic activities are raising animals and farming.

One of the members is Ruth. She is on her third loan with her friends and members of the Union Progresista group. She likes this group because all of the members are friends and they always share pleasant moments at their meetings. Ruth is 23 years old and is the single mother of a 4-year-old daughter who attends a local school. She doesn't have her own home, so she lives with her mother and shares the household expenses.

Ruth works from Monday to Friday as a domestic worker. At home, she raises chickens and guinea pigs. She also farms and her harvest is for her family but, if there is enough, she sells it. The money from this loan is to purchase chickens to raise in this business. Her goal is to increase the number of animals that she raises.

In this group: Rosa Celia, María Dolores, Norma Fabiola, Celia Amada, María Manuela, Mercy Johanna, Blanca Beatriz, Mariana De Jesús, Ruth Angelica, María Carmen, Rosa Luzmila*, María Luz, Rosa Amelia
