Melanya is from Lanjazat village in the Ararat region. She lives with her husband, son, daughter, and her elderly pensioner mother-in-law. Melanya works at the village local school as a teacher, and her husband works in the private sector. Both of them work hard to be able to earn a living for the family. Their salaries, however, are very low, and it is almost impossible to cover the growing needs of the family based on those salaries alone.
To be able to take care of her family’s needs, Melanya is extensively engaged in agribusiness; she cultivates peaches, plums, apples, and strawberries. Melanya and her family have special refrigerators where they keep fruits for a long time and sell those fruits during the winter. Her husband and son sell the agricultural products in the local market, which is an important source of their income.
To sustain her agribusiness, Melanya currently needs a loan of 2,600 USD to purchase apples for keeping them in the refrigerator and selling them during the winter. She will also use the loan to pay for harvesting services and to make previous credit repayments. Melanya and her family rely on the goodwill of the lenders and are thankful to them for the support.
