Zura's story

Zura is 61 years old, widowed, and raised her son on her own. Zura has a high school education. As a main source of income for her family, Zura raises livestock, having started 29 years ago with the purchase of cattle for 5,000 som KGS. Thanks to her hard work, Zura today has on her homestead: two dairy cows, three horses, and two steers, and also has a plot of land measuring 1.20 hectares, on which she grows potatoes, barley and wheat.

Zura lives with her son, who helps her around the farm. Zura milks the cows, and her son delivers milk on a daily basis to distributors for cash. Monthly income consists of 12,000 som (KGS). With the aim of further developing her farm, Zura turned to the microfinance bank Bai-Tushum and Partners for a loan - to purchase steers for fattening with the subsequent sale at the market at a premium.

Zura plans to invest income from the loan in further propagating the quantity of domestic animals, and intends to save money to purchase an apartment for her son.
