A loan of $2,250 helped buy cows to fatten and sell.

Gulayim's story

Gulayim is 58 years old, married, and, with her husband, raising one daughter. Gulayim has a secondary education. Tor provide the primary source of income for her family, Gulayim farms and keeps livestock. She started 27 years ago when she bought cattle with 10,000 KGS. Because of Gulayim's hard work, her farm now has five dairy cows, fifteen sheep, ten goats, and also a 0.32 hectare plot of land where she grows potatoes, corn, and sunflowers. Also there is a small orchard with apple trees, which produces a good harvest. Right now, she has three tons of apples in her cellar which she will sell before the New Year, since then there will be strong demand and high prices for fruit. Her monthly income is 10,000 KGS. In order to further expand her farm, Gulayim approached the microfinance bank Bai-Tushum and Partners for a loan to buy cattle for fattening and resale. Gulayim plans to invest profits she nets from the loan in to further expanding her livestock.
