A loan of $1,300 helped to buy rice, meat, fish and other supplies.

Aida Margarita's story

The communal bank “Madre Para Un Futuro Mejor” [“Mother For a Better Future”] meets every 15 days in the canton of 24 de Mayo in the province of Manabí, known for its beautiful scenery, forests, variety of wildlife, and for its kind and hardworking people who work in agriculture and raising livestock.

Aida is 59 years old and lives in 24 de Mayo. She is married and has seven adult children. One of her daughters lives with her along with her three small children. Her daughter is studying in the university and depends on them. Aida’s husband is a gardener who works for the local municipality.

Aida has a fighting spirit and likes to work to help her husband provide for their family. She rents a space in the center of the city where she works preparing and selling food. Every day she prepares delicious breakfasts and lunches. Her daughter helps her at work after she sends her children to school. Aida’s restaurant is very busy, because she is a good cook and because she always tries to vary the menu, which is why her customers prefer her. She now has six years of experience with her business, and it allows her to help her husband and her daughter, who has many expenses with her university studies.

Aida is requesting this loan to buy rice, meat, fish and other supplies for preparing her dishes. She has been a member of the communal bank since it started, and she likes it because of the help it has given her to get ahead. Her dream is to own her own restaurant.
