A loan of $3,125 helped to purchase biodigesters/biogas for resale in his community.

Filemon's story

Filemon, a dairy farmer in Tanzania, is constantly looking to reduce his operational costs on a daily basis. His cows produce sufficient milk that would be suitable for starting a small yogurt and cheese business, but he cannot think of these ideas due to the high cost of energy required. With the installation of biogas at his home and around his neighbors' circle, Filemon and his neighbors will be able to generate clean-burning, renewable biogas from the several kilograms of manure their cows produce weekly, allowing them to significantly decrease energy costs. Moreover, they will use the fertilizer generated by the system on their animal feed – plants remaining - allowing them to save on agrochemical fertilizer costs. This TAHUDE Foundation biodigester initiative has impressed Filemon so much that, in addition to his own biodigester, he has decided to build four more biodigesters for his neighbors under the agreement that they will pay him little by little under the supervision of TAHUDE Foundation Microcredit. TAHUDE Foundation is grateful and appreciates his enthusiasm. His success will impact not only his family and parents, but also the community at large.
