A loan of $5,275 helped to cover education expenses.

Damaris Cristina's story

Damaris Cristina is a young dentistry student. She is asking for a loan to cover her education expenses. This is her story: Hello, my name is Damaris. I am 25 years old and Dominican. I was born and raised in Moca, Espaillat province. I have 5 siblings and I am single. I work to help my parents, since they don't work.

I want to study dentistry in the Universidad Católica Tecnológica del Cibao (UCATECI) La Vega RD. I want to do this major because I really like it and I want to be able to help those who need it, my family and my community. Good oral health is very important and we have to educate society of all of the benefits, since we Dominicans don't have much of a culture of doing preventative dental care.

I have done 3 trimesters and every day I fall more in love with my major. This loan is very necessary for me because with it I can meet my goals of being professional and being one more change in my country. What I want is to graduate with the best grades, and be able to get ahead professionally. After I finish my dentistry major, I want to work as a dentist in the public sector, start a project to help the neediest in my whole province, and specialize in the area of oral rehabilitation.
