A loan of $2,375 helped a member to buy cosmetics and headbands.

Poderosas (Cuenca) Group's story

The “Poderosa” loan group is made up of seven ladies who live in the city of Cuenca, known for its cold climate, its four rivers that bathe it, for its natural landscape and architecture. It’s been a World Heritage site since December 1999. Its people maintain their culture and traditions and are friendly people with warm hearts. These members work for the stability of their household and to provide their children with a better future.

Ximena is one of the members and she is asking for her first loan, along with her friends from the Poderosa loan group. She was invited to join by the group’s president and expects the loans to help her improve the stability of her household.

Ximena is 34 years old, in a common law marriage, and doesn’t have any children. Her husband is a mobile vendor and they live in a rented house.

Ximena is an informal merchant and sells laces, headbands, bows, etc. and has been doing so for four years. She works seven days a week with no set schedule. She also sells a large variety of cosmetics.

She will use the money from this loan to buy headbands and cosmetics so that she will have a variety in stock. Her dream is to have her own house.

In this group: Ximena Alexandra, Carmen Lourdes, Yessenia Estefania, Sonia Del Pilar, María Aurora, Zoila Aurora, Zoila Huvenia
