Mariama is the featured leader of this group of entrepreneurs. Mariama was born in Tonkolili district, in northern Sierra Leone, 36 years ago. She is married to a trader and the couple has four children: two in primary school and two in secondary school. For many years now, Mariama has been selling palm oil (the country’s most popular cooking oil), Maggi (used to give sauce a sweet taste), tomatoes, etc. With the help of this loan, Mariama and her group members will be able to expand their respective businesses, make more sales, and consequently improve their living conditions. Mariama will use her share of the loan (800,000 Sierra Leonean leones) to buy palm oil, Maggi, tomatoes, etc., in wholesale to add to her current stock.
