A loan of $1,400 helped to buy food products to sell.

Maria Elena's story

Elena is 36, married and has a daughter who already goes to school. Her husband sells charcoal by the quintal (a quintal is about 100 lb) in various places. Elena has had a grocery store for 18 years which he inherited from her mother. Now she helps her husband with the earnings from it.

In her store she sells rice, sugar, corn by the pound and quintal, candy, soft drinks, juices, and also dairy products. Elena runs the store from Monday to Saturday from 6:00 in the morning to 9:00 in the evening. On Sundays she pays a woman to run it.

Elena feels happy and satisfied with the achievements she has had thanks to Kiva's support. She hopes to continue helping her husband with the finances and improving her home. She has taken out various loans with Kiva and is a fine individual– on time and responsible with her payments.
