Kalifa

A loan of $1,050 helped to buy batteries, sugar, cigarettes, powdered milk and tea.

Kalifa's story

Born around 1973 in Diandiana C/Kolondièba, Kalifa lives in Kolondièba (a sub-prefecture of the third administrative region of Mali) with his wife and 7 children in a traditional family setting. Kalifa very quickly became interested in revenue-generating activities, notably selling different shop articles. He is very much in demand in his district of Kolondièba. Bolstered by 7 years experience in this line of work, he is working with Soro Yiriwaso in order to increase his business and satisfy his ever-growing clientèle. He is on his third loan, having properly repaid his previous loans.

Kalifa plans to use his loan to buy batteries, sugar, cigarettes, powdered milk and tea. He gets his supplies from the wholesalers in Kolondièba and often in Bamako. He makes his sales for cash and sometimes for credit to a mixed and diverse clientèle. Kalifa hopes to make a monthly profit of 120 000 francs which will be used to meet his family's needs and to repay the loan, and will be reinvested in his business.
