A loan of $425 helped purchase of thread, fabric and sewing machine.

Anita's story

Anita is a member of "Las Moralinas" Community Bank. She lives in San Martin region and province, in the Morales district. For 10 years she has been a fashion designer and seamstress and has a workshop in her parents' house at 165 Jr. Francisco Pizarro. Anita takes custom orders and has contracts with various private groups and individuals.

Anita's sales have increased because she is accountable and on time, and because she provides a fine finish to her products. She hopes this will help her improve her quality of life and availability of capital.

She plans to use the loan of 1,200 soles (about $425) -- which will be paid back in 6 months -- to purchase thread in various colors; fabrics of various types, colors and finishes; and a sewing machine. Having these materials on hand will allow her to finish her work making uniforms for city offices, as well as all sorts of garments requested by her female clients (who often order only the model so she can make and sell them).

Anita is single and 31 years old. She is a positive and enterprising woman whose goal in life is to own a boutique and sell bridal wear.
