A loan of $5,150 helped a member to buy leather.

Kolla Marka Group's story

The communal bank "Kolla Marka" will begin its eleventh loan cycle with Pro Mujer, as part of the Focal Point of Alto Lima. It is composed of ten members and is run by a board which has Florencia as the President.

The businesses that the members of the association are running are varied. Among them are: cold porcelain works, costume jewelry, sewing of ponchos, a dairy, making balls, a neighborhood store, vegetable sales, pastries and cloth weaving.

The loan they will take out will benefit small businesswomen, of which Florencia is a member. She says she joined Pro Mujer ten years ago, by invitation of a friend who is a partner in the institution. She currently has a business sewing balls. She said that she learned this business from her husband, 20 years ago, when they started their own workshop.

The loan that she will take out now is for increasing capital (buying leather) that she will get from wholesale stores in La Paz, and subsequently for production. She will sell it in her sales space. This form of work allows her to generate resources to sustain her home, since she is married and has two children.

When asked what she likes about Pro Mujer, she says that she likes the sharing in her community bank.

In this group: Florencia , Carla Andrea, Lucia, Elida , Maxima , Sonia Marcela, Cricelda, Maria Salome , Wilson , Rosmery
