A loan of $1,100 helped to stock her store.

Betty Elena's story

Betty is 56 years old and has a small variety store in her home, located in the south part of town. She has 20 years’ experience in this business. She began her entrepreneurial venture out of a need to increase the family income. It continues and she wants to grow it.

She works from 9:00 am to 9:00 pm, buying from large suppliers who offer her better deals. She has steady and occasional customers and she has many referrals who buy directly from her. During seasons such as Christmas and new year, her main challenge is having enough money to invest and increase her sales. She is asking for a her first Kiva loan, through Fundación Mario Santo Domingo to buy merchandise such as toys, clothing, shoes, and cosmetics. She plans to be successful through her Kiva loan, because she is making this investment during the busiest time of the year, where there is a good amount of money in circulation.
