Darikhan is 43 years old and married. She and her husband have four children. Her sons are now in Russia as migrant workers, and the youngest daughter attends secondary school. Darikhan has received secondary education. She works as a janitor at the village administrative office. As an additional source of income for her family, Darikhan raises livestock and gardens. She started this business 20 years ago by buying livestock for 3,000 KGS. Her husband helps her out on the farm. Thanks to Darikhan's hard work, her farm now includes eight sheep and an apple orchard producing a good harvest. Her monthly income is 2,000 KGS. In order to develop her business further, Darikhan has turned to the Bai Tushum & Partners microfinance institution for a loan to increase her livestock by buying a cow. Darikhan plans to invest the resulting income into a further headcount increase, and plans to grow her savings so as to achieve financial stability.
