A loan of $975 helped buy agricultural supplies for her coffee crop.

Maria Antonia's story

María Antonia is a young woman of 23 years of age. She is a homemaker, a farmer, a wife, and a mother of a two-year-old son. She stayed in school through the third grade since her parents, people of few means, could not support her or provide her with the opportunity to become a professional. Ever since she was very young, she has been in the business of raising coffee, having learned from her father the necessary techniques for planting, fertilizing, growing and harvesting the bean so that it could then be washed, dried, and depulped, and then finally sold to the various buyers that come from all over the region. The land that she and her husband work is theirs partly thanks to an inheritance from her father; it is located twenty minutes walking from their home.

María Antonia dreams of expanding her coffee plantings by buying more land, thus increasing her income for her family and home and helping her only son to complete his schooling and attend university. He will be able to prepare himself to have greater opportunities in life.

The loan that she is requesting today will be used to buy agricultural supplies which she will invest in her coffee fields. These will be what helps strengthen her family's economic situation at the end of the season.
