Esmelda Maria
View original language description ↓
Esmelda, 44, lives in the Villa Reconciliacion neighborhood of Managua. She is married and has two children, 8 and 13, both in school. Her husband works for a taxi cooperative. Esmelda gets up very early each morning to dive into selling her products--fish and various kinds of delicious shellfish. They're expensive products but products that sell well because they are an important part of a healthy diet. She's been operating the business for four years. Sales are slow sometimes but very good at other times, Semana Santa (the week before Easter), for example, which was the time she began her business with money she had saved. She didn't have a place to sell her products before, but with good advice and hard work, she managed to establish herself. The requested loan is to buy a range of seafood so that Esmelda can continue to grow her small business and develop her business skills. In the future, she hopes to improve her little shop so that she can provide better service to her customers.
