A loan of $1,000 helped buy more food staff.

Makwa's story

Makwa is 32 years old and lives in the town of Mbale in the region of Mbale in Uganda. He is married and has 7 children with 4 of them currently in school. For the past 2 years, Makwa has been working hard to manage his restaurant, which sells food.

To help expand his business, Makwa has requested a loan of 2,500,000 Ugandan Shillings from BRAC Uganda. The loan will be used to buy more food staff, and will help Makwa to generate greater profits and educate his children with the high profits earned. Makwa hopes that in the future he will be able to become richer through the profits earned.

Makwa is a member of BRAC's Small Enterprise Program (SEP). The program primarily serves small entrepreneurs like Makwa who do not have enough collateral for commercial loans, but have businesses that have grown too large for micro-loans.
