A loan of $175 helped to buy more charcoal.

Marie T.'s story

Marie lives in New Kru Town which is one of the oldest communities in Liberia. Living conditions are difficult due to the high crime rate, scarcity of bathrooms, filthy conditions and over population. The positive side is that rooms are a bit cheaper, traveling is an option, it has one of the biggest markets in Liberia, and food is less expensive.

Marie is married to an office worker. Their four children are between the ages of 14 and 30. Two of their children currently attend school and live at home. Marie was unable to attend school but she started a table market which she manages well. She will use the loan to buy more charcoal. She established this business 10 years ago with a little money from her husband. She has learned the business by watching other business women. Marie enjoys having a lot of costumers. Her plan is to move from a table business to a shop.
