A loan of $325 helped to purchase more fresh fish and chicken for her business.

Helena's story

Helena lives and works in St. Paul. St. Paul is home to the oldest market in Liberia and is known for their fish, due to its location by the sea. St. Paul is a suburb located just outside Monrovia, past the Free Port. It is one of the poorer areas and you will often find its residents living in sub-standard housing.

Helena is 32 years old, single, with three children aged from 6 to 17, who are in school and live at home. For the past three years she has been operating a small table market where she sells fresh fish and chicken in the local market. She started this business by selling dried fish around in her community with the few goods she could afford, and she learned this way of selling from her friends. She is requesting a loan to purchase more fresh fish and chicken for her business. Her plan is to expand her business even more.
