A loan of $525 helped to buy chairs, tables, and another freezer to store ice cream.

Yuleidis's story

Yuleidis, a 23 year-old youth, sells ice cream, recharging services, cellular calls, and sweets in general for a living. She decided to start a business a year ago when she observed the potential demand in the area where she lives and her need to generate income to support her college expenses. She studies financial management and is in control of her investment. She first sold communication services and subsequently satisfied her customers by offering them ice cream. Her sales have gradually increased and now her freezer is not sufficient to respond to the requests of her customers. Ice cream is not available when they are shopping, as they sell very quickly. Her goal is to have a store and earn more income to finish her college studies. For that, she works every day of the week without stopping from 7:00 AM to 8:00 PM. She buys in cash only from large companies in order to obtain fair prices to compete effectively. Today she is applying for a Kiva loan, her first funding from Fundación Mario Santo Domingo. She will use it to buy chairs, tables and another freezer to store ice cream, attracting the teenagers and children that are on vacation at the end of the year, to increase sales. With this investment she will improve her offering, the service will be timely, and it will give her business a better presentation, making her Kiva loan, an excellent investment.
