A loan of $1,200 helped to buy more household items for her shop.

Winnie's story

Winnie is 32 years old and lives in the town of Abaita Ababiri in the region of Kampala, in western Uganda. She is married and has two children, with one of them currently in school. For the past five years, Winnie has been working hard to manage her retail shop, which sells household items.

To help expand her business, Winnie has requested a loan of Ugandan Shillings from BRAC Uganda. The loan will be used to buy more items, and will help Winnie generate greater profits and increase her business. Winnie hopes that in the future she will be able to expand her business.

Winnie is a member of BRAC's Small Enterprise Program (SEP). The program primarily serves small entrepreneurs like Winnie who do not have enough collateral for commercial loans, but have businesses that have grown too large for microloans.
