Mohamed J.'s Group's story

In the picture above is a group of teachers from Waterloo, a small town near Freetown, Sierra Leone’s capital city. They have come to SMT, a partner of Kiva.org, to apply for a loan of 9,800,000 Sierra Leonean Leones (SLL) for the entire group in order to meet their most immediate and pressing financial needs.

At the end of each month, they can easily repay the loan using their monthly salaries. It is their school’s bursar who is directly responsible for doing the deductions and making the repayments on their behalf.

Mohamed is the featured leader of this group. The 45-year-old is a native of Kenema city in eastern Sierra Leone. He is married to a teacher and has six children who are attending primary, secondary, and tertiary academic institutions. Mohamed has been a school teacher for 32 years now. He has requested a loan of 3,500,000 Sierra Leonean Leones(SLL) in order to buy iron corrugated zincs in order to roof his house.

In this group: Mohamed J., Alimamy M., Adikalie K., Alhassan, Santigie M.
