Idalia Del Carmen's story

Idalia, age 40, went to school up until the sixth grade. Due to her parents’ financial problems, she was not able to continue her studies. Her husband is a farmer, and he is a salesperson at a business. Also, two of her sibling’s children live with them. They are in the sixth and eighth grades. She takes care of them because their mother works. This helps to cover the household expenses. Idalia only has two children, and they are grown. Idalia devotes herself to the household chores. In her free time she helps her husband with the farming. He was born close to a ranch where they grew a lot of corn. At the age of ten he started with the adventure in the fields with his father. It was with them that she learned this business activity. Nevertheless, there are times when her sibling’s children do not go to school, and she devotes herself to sales with her husband in order to be able to contribute more to the household income. Idalia will use the loan to pay medical expenses for an operation that her husband had. She will also buy supplies (fertilizer, insecticides, and fungicides) for 7,000 square meters of corn. She hopes to have good harvests and better income in order to provide her family with an adequate dwelling and to be able to pay her loan. Idalia’s dreams and goals are first, for her husband to recover, and then, for her crops to do well. Lastly, she would like to have a small business. The loan will be a big help to Idalia because this way she will be able to take good care of her crops. Income will be better, and she will manage to pay off the loan.
