Nodar lives in the Khelvachauri District. He is 62 years old, married and lives with his wife, two grown sons and a daughter. Nodar’s daughter is a tailor and gets a monthly salary. Nodar is, at the moment, unemployed. He runs a small-scale agricultural business and breeds a milk cow. The family makes cheese and sells it to community members. Nodar has a citrus garden and seasonally sells fruit to retailers.

Nodar decided to start a business as their existing income isn’t enough for the family and their living conditions are poor. His loan request was approved in the frame of a new joint initiative of Kiva and Credo. The start-up loan program envisages the provision of business start-up and restartup credits with soft conditions to country vulnerable poor, who do not have access to credit products, being regarded as “high risk borrowers” because of low income. With the received credit, Nodar will purchase a car and serve local people as a taxi driver. The income of the family will increase and Nodar will be able to improve the living conditions of the family in the future.
