A loan of $6,225 helped to buy university fees for his degree in medicine.

Kelvin Ramon's story

Kelvin Ramón is a young medicine student and is applying for a loan in order to pay for his studies.

This is Kelvin's story:

"My name is Kelvin and I am 21 years old. I currently live in the city of Santo Domingo, in the house of a friend of the family. I was born in the Barahona province in the south of the Dominican Republic. I left my home province in the hope of achieving my lifelong dream of becoming a doctor. My family is not very big - I have only one brother.

"I am currently in second semester, studying medicine at the Universidad Tecnológica de Santiago (UTESA). I need this loan from FUNDAPEC and Kiva because it would be a great help for me to continue my studies.

"Receiving this loan would be amazing! This would be the biggest opportunity I have had in my life. I would have no obstacles to overcome to pay university fees and so I could continue studying the degree that I like so much. Then, in the future, I can become what I have always wanted to be - a paediatrics doctor, as I love children.

"After finishing my degree, my objective is to do my best every day - with everything I learn in my studies I want to do the best for everyone I have to treat. I will work with patience, dedication and, above all, with lots of love, so that I can relieve the pain of those who come to me in order to get better."
