Grace F. has been a GHAPE client for nearly seven years. She is 49, widowed and has six children.

Grace's first loan was for $38, and she used it to grow yams on her farm. Since that time, she has used other loans to expand her businesses and increase her income. GHAPE has a policy of increasing loan size only when borrowers have shown they are responsible. As a long-standing member with an excellent repayment record, Grace has consistently been able to apply for larger loans over the last two years.

Grace plans to invest her new loan in a machine for inflating car and motorbike tires. She also plans to hire someone to operate the machine when she cannot be present.

Sadly, Grace lost her husband when her sons and daughters were very young, but she has used money from previous loans to help buy books and pay her children's school fees. In addition to educating her children, Grace says that she wants to maintain a good house, and save some of her profit to invest in building her business and creating a larger income for herself and her family in the future.
