A loan of $1,075 helped to buy a small piece of land where to grow cocoa.

Lurgia's story

Lurgia is 21 years old. She is married to Rafael and they have three children. They all live in a house made with adobe. She and her husband work in agriculture. They own a one-and-a-half hectares piece of land they inherited from their parents when they were young but responsible enough to sustain themselves economically. Together, they grow a wide variety of crops, such as cocoa, coffee, varbasco [common mullein] and different fruit trees.

Lurgia has been doing this for more than five years and with time, the price of these products has improved, resulting in a better income. However, she must invest in organic fertilizer and tools every harvesting season. This is her third loan with Kiva and she feels confident about the future of her business.

She is requesting a loan of 3,000 nuevos soles [PEN] to buy a small piece of land close to where she lives, in which she is planning to grow more cocoa.
