A loan of $625 helped to buy fabric, thread, zips and patterns, both wholesale and retail.

Carmen's story

Carmen is 49 years old. Her life has taken place behind a sewing machine for the last 20 years, since her mother taught her the art of dressmaking. Little by little Carmen, to keep herself in the market and to achieve high quality pieces of clothing, has studied each part of dressmaking technically and has been able to perfect what her mother had taught her.

Nowadays she designs, prepares, assembles and finished men's, women's and children's clothing. With this she obtains her own income, selling on credit and making cash sales with each item of clothing which the families from her neighbourhood, where she lives and works, use. Her goal is to continually strengthen her work capital and physical workspace, but her biggest challenge is having enough money to do so. This has led her to request a Kiva loan. This is her first loan cycle with Fundación Mario Santo Domingo, through which she will buy fabric, thread, zips and patterns, both wholesale and retail. With this she will be able to increase her production during one of the biggest selling periods of the year for her business, as is the end of the year. This is exactly what will make her Kiva loan a good investment, with potential success.
