A loan of $4,450 helped a member to buy cosmetics and threads.

Sentimientos (Cuenca) Group's story

This group is called “Sentimientos” [Feelings] and is composed of six women and two men. They all live in Cuenca, a city surrounded by vegetation and with great landscapes due to its rough geography. There are four rivers flowing through it, and it was declared World Cultural Heritage Site in December 1999. Its people are kind and courteous and work every day with different activities through which they have the opportunity to improve their economic situation. Every new day is a new opportunity to grow and improve. They keep alive the culture and traditions of their ancestors.

One of the members of this group is Rosa. This is her third loan together with her friends who are also members of this group. She likes this type of credit because she has the opportunity to strengthen her friendship with the rest of the members and to have a chat, since they are normally busy with work and cannot meet. Rosa is 39, married and has two children who are 12 and 7. Her first son goes to upper school, the youngest, to elementary school. Her husband is a mechanic. They live in a rented house.

Rosa is a stay-at-home mom. However, she contributes to the household’s economy by selling cosmetics from different brands, every day and at any time if it is needed. She also weaves sweaters and purses and sells them to the same customers that buy cosmetics. She had talent for business and learned by doing.

With this loan she will buy threads and cosmetic products that are on sale. Her goal is to have her own establishment.

Two members could not be there when the picture was taken, so their pictures were added afterwards.
