Carmen Elena

A loan of $1,575 helped to buy supplies.

Carmen Elena's story

Carmen is 49 years old and the mother of three children between the ages of 16 and 28. She has a barber shop near the city of Barranquilla, where she offers haircuts, styles, smoothing, and also sells beauty products and gives advice to her customers. Her customer base constantly increases and she needs to serve them well so that they will be comfortable while they receive aesthetic treatments.

When she started her business, she did so so that she could achieve financial Independence because she never liked to have to depend on someone else. She saw others doing this, practiced, and she was able to capture this experience, since she never took technical courses. She made her first steps in her home and little by little she was able to open a shop near her home after two years, and add products that her customers needed. She is asking for a Kiva loan so she can buy beauty products such as shampoo, conditioner, tints, massages, etc. She also wants to buy two barber chairs and six plastic chairs, as well as some manicuring equipment. This way she will have a comfortable environment that she will need in December, when her number of customers increase, which leads to her success.
