A loan of $1,275 helped to buy sugar cane, which is the raw material for the distillation of liquor.

Maximandro's story

Maximandro is 31 years old. He lives with his wife in the district of Santo Domingo de la Capilla. The people work growing sugar cane, in liquor sales, and in livestock. It is some two hours from the city of Pucará, located in the Cajamarca Region, on the northern coast of Peru.

He has been working with his family for five years in the distillation of liquor, for later sale in various surrounding districts. He says that the liquor is used as an artisan drink and for curative purposes, and preventatives.

Maximandro has asked for a loan of 3,500 soles to buy sugar cane as it is the raw material of his product, and thus be able to have a greater production to offer his clients and generate more income for his family.
