Fighting for a better future? We need your help.

Creating a more equitable world takes a lot of time and energy, but at Kiva we’re in it for the long haul. 100% of money lent on Kiva goes to funding loans. That means we rely on donations from people like you to make this work possible. For a limited time, if you donate $35 or more, a $25 bonus will be added to your account (you’ll get an email once it’s there).

Alfred's story

Alfred is 48 years old and lives in the town of Kijura in the Hoima region of Uganda. He is married and has no children currently in school. For the past five years, Alfred has been working hard to manage his retail shop, which handles general products.

To help expand his business, Alfred has requested a loan of 3,000,000 Ugandan Shillings from BRAC Uganda. The loan will be used for the expansion of the business by purchasing more items, and will help Alfred to generate greater profits and to increase the family income. Alfred hopes that, in the future, he will be able to own an expanded business with various outlets.

Alfred is a member of BRAC's Small Enterprise Program (SEP). The program primarily serves small entrepreneurs like Alfred who do not have enough collateral for commercial loans, but have businesses that have grown too large for microloans.
