Lydia's story

Lydia is 38 years old and lives in the town of Kinubi in Hoima region of Uganda. She is married and has 4 children who are all currently in school. For the past 2 years, Lydia has been working hard to manage her retail shop, which in deals in home products.

To help expand her business, Lydia has requested a loan of 3,000,000 Ugandan Shillings from BRAC Uganda. The loan will be used to buy more products for the shop, and will help Lydia to generate greater profits, and be able to pay her children's school fees in the long ran. Lydia hopes that in the future she will be able to expand into wholesale.

Lydia is a member of BRAC's Small Enterprise Program (SEP). The program primarily serves small entrepreneurs like Lydia who do not have enough collateral for commercial loans, but have businesses that have grown too large for microloans.
