Leakena's story

Leakena is 19 years old and single. She lives with her parents and other siblings in a rural village of Prasat Bakong district, Siem Reap province. Leakena is a year-one student at the University of South-East Asia in the province. Her major is accounting, the major that she loves and thinks is suitable for her personality. Her education fees are subsidized by her parents. In order to help her parents cover her tuition fees, during her course Leakena has a part-time job in Snow Yogurt at Lucky Mall.

Due to the family’s financial constraints, Leakena is experiencing difficulties covering her education fees, so she decided to take out a loan in the amount of 1,575 US dollars, which will enable her to cover the overall fees for the rest of her three-year courses at the university. Leakena is very happy and thankful for the loan funded via Kiva to allow poor students to pursue a higher education, and contribute to the future development of Cambodia.
