A loan of $1,375 helped to buy organic manure and seeds, and to pay labourers.

Kelita's story

Kelita is 69 years old and is a happy, friendly, and very enterprising woman. She is a mother to seven children, all of whom are now independent adults. Kelita lives with her husband, Walter, in their own house. Every day they work hard to provide the family with a better quality of life. Kelita makes a living in farming and wakes up very early to go out and grow, water, and prepare her land for her seedlings. Kelita also has honey bees and grows camu-camu (a regional fruit found in the Peruvian jungle). Kelita has been doing this work for over 23 years. She really likes her work and she has time that she can spend with her husband. Kelita makes good sales as the products from her land are very good. She sends them to Lima where her son sells them. Kelita hopes to keep up with this business and, later on, want to be able to sell other crops. This will be Kelita's third loan with Kiva and she is applying for it so that she can realise her plans. Kelita promises to make her repayments on time and to be a good example in her group, where the members are good and responsible people. With this loan of 3800 Nuevo Soles, Kelita will buy more seeds to sow and organic manure, and will pay some labourers to help her to sow peppers and start a new crop.
